Drift Creek Falls and Munson Creek Falls

Today, since I didn’t have to work, we drove down to hike Drift Creek Falls trail.  We took 101 south to get there.  It was so very foggy the whole way.  In some places you couldn’t even the ocean.  Part of the road leading up to the trailhead was gravel.  I held my breath the whole time since our last gravel road waterfall trip didn’t turn out so well.  We made it just fine.  There were quite a few people in the parking lot when we got there but there were still lots of open spots.  When we were leaving, there were no spots and someone waited for us to leave our spot.  Glad I talked Scott into going early.  It was a very pleasant hike.  Mostly downhill on the way to the falls, which means mostly uphill on the way back.  It was about 3 miles round trip.  What I was most excited about for this hike was the suspension bridge that was right above the falls.  It was really cool.  Of course I made it bounce a lot as we walked across!

The water level was really low so the volume of water coming over the falls was not as much as it is during the rainy season.

After playing on the bridge for a while, we hiked down to get a view of the falls from below.

We stopped at a cute little covered bridge in the drive out.

After the hike, the plan was to stop by the newly renovated Tillamook Cheese Factory on the way home.  We pulled into the parking lot only to find that there were TONS of people there.  Scott decided that he hated the thought of the crowds more than he liked the cheese!  So, we left the cheese factory and drove back the way we came to hike to a waterfall that we passed a sign for on the way.

Munson Creek Falls was a super easy super short hike.  The waterfall is only visible from a distance.  Even though the hike was really short we saw lots of creatures.  Chipmunks, giant snail, our second snake of the day, and when leaving the parking lot, there was a random rooster running down the road.

We headed home, but first we stopped for dinner in Canon Beach.  We had dinner at Pelican Brewing and acquired one more stamp on our Oregon Coast Beer Trail Passport.  They had a seasonal beer that I have been wanting to try.  It was actually pretty good.

We made good use of my day off.  Now I can check Drift Creek Falls and the suspension bridge off my list!
