Mt. Rainier National Park

Today, we took advantage of my day off and nice weather and visited Mt Rainier National Park.  The weather forecast for the park was mostly cloudy with a high of about 30 so we dressed accordingly.  Turns out the forecast was only right about the mostly cloudy part.  The temperature stayed right around 50.  Because of this, we were quite warm on some of our hikes.  We had read that they start closing a lot of the roads in the park for the winter at the end of October.  Unfortunately, they had already closed one of the roads that we wanted to drive down.  No worries though, we were still able to see a lot during our visit.  I think a combination of it being a Wednesday and being towards the end of the fall season made it so there were not very many people at all in the park.  We did not have to fight crowds, and had most of our stops to ourselves.

This was one of the views on the way to the park.

Our first stop for a view of Mt Rainier which is the tallest peak in Washington.

More views on our drive through the park.  We had to fight the clouds all day for our views.

We hiked through The Grove of the Patriarchs.  It is an old forest with trees up to 1000 years old.  It also had a swinging bridge!

The water was so crystal clear!

Next, we went for a little hike to a waterfall.  This place was really neat too.  There was a huge pile of logs that had gathered after flowing over the waterfall.  The water here was also super clear!

Our next stop was supposed to be another waterfall.  However, if it was there we couldn’t really see it.   It was still a pretty stop.

Box Canyon.  The water here was not clear at all!

Some more views of Mt Rainier.  Some of them we took through the monocular.

We also got a view of Mt Adams when the clouds moved.

More of Mt Rainier on our way out of the park.

Not sure what our next adventure will be, but we really enjoyed this one.
