Lighthouses and the Easternmost Point of the US

Today we got an early start and headed north. Our first stop for the day was the easternmost point of the United States, West Quoddy Head. The weather was beautiful, sunny, and cold. We were able to see the West Quoddy Head Lighthouse and walk a snow covered trail. The trail took us through the woods a little and along the ledge of the island. We put on our spikes so the snow and ice covered trail were no problem for us to navigate.

Next, we headed further north and crossed the border into New Brunswick, Canada. Right across the border was the first lighthouse we were stopping to see, Mulholland Point Light. It was simple and sweet. We were able to look across the water to see Lubec, Maine, which is where we crossed the border.

After our quick visit here, we continued to the end of the island to see the Head Harbour Light. This is also sometimes referred to as East Quoddy Light. Sadly, we couldn’t get closer to the light. The land between the islands is only accessible during low tide. Even though we were there while the bridge was accessible, the ladder to climb up the second island was missing the lower part and we didn’t think we would be able to reach it.

After this, we headed south to our stop for the night in Bangor. While heading to dinner, we saw this beautiful sunset.

We will settle in for the evening and rest up for another adventure tomorrow.
