Last Weekend in Maine

Well, we are down to our last 4 days in Maine. We made the most of our last weekend here and some great weather and got out and saw a few new places and revisited a couple.

Thursday night we went for a post sunset walk to Portland Head Light. It was neat to be able to see the lighthouse lit at night and the buoys and channel markers in the water.

Saturday, we got up bright and early to head to breakfast at a place I read about this week. They served a breakfast buffet and they also had bottomless mimosas and bloody marys. The morning started out very rainy. On our drive in, we got caught by the draw bridge.

This is the place that we had breakfast. It looks like a hole in the wall but it was very good! It was right on the water.

After breakfast, we went home and may or may not have taken a nap. After the nap that we may or may not have taken, the sun had come out and it was 65 degrees outside so we went for a nice long walk. We walked down to the Robinson Woods Preserve. We had not been there before. It was a nice walk through the woods. Even with the 65 degree day, there were still patches of snow throughout the trail.

The sunset on Saturday was beautiful. We went to go see it at the Portland Head Light but they actually had staff locking the gates and kicking people out. The park closes at sunset but the gate hasn’t been closed any evening before now. We had to look at the sunset through the fence.

Today, we revisited Grafton Notch State Park with hopes of being able to hike to Screw Auger Falls. On our way, we made a stop at a trail called the cataracts. We were not able to do this trail because the snow was just too deep and it was not packed down. Several attempts were made only to go down knee and waist deep. A couple times of getting out of the deep snow and we were done and called it quits.

Last time we went to Grafton Notch State Park we were not able to hike to Screw Auger Falls because there was no space to park due to snow. This time we were able to park on the side of the road and make the short hike. It’s amazing how much snow is still on the ground. The walk was for the most part very easy. Only sunk down a couple of times.

We had a great last weekend here in Maine. I’m sure the next 4 days are going to fly by. We put the cargo box back on top of the car so I guess we should actually start packing some stuff now. Haha.
