Girl’s Getaway
My Aunt Connie and mom came down and the three of us took off to Beaufort, NC. It was rainy and kinda cool when we got there so we just drove around checked the place out. We ended up stoping at a bar for a quick drink. There wasn’t much else to do because of the weather so we found some board games and hung and played for awhile. We made our way back to our room and ordered pizza and hung out.

In the morning, we went to a local diner for breakfast. It was delicious! We then headed downtown to check out some of the tourist spots. We toured the Old Burying Grounds. They provided a brochure with information about some of the graves. It was very interesting to read the stories.

We proceeded to walk around the town. We visited a couple of shops and even ended up taking an impromptu boat ride of the waterfront. We saw some horses on one of the islands. We went to the Maritime Museum. They had some cool exhibits of items they have salvaged from Blackbeards ship. We drove to a house that is supposedly a place that Blackbeard stayed once.

Next, we drove down to Atlantic Beach to visit Fort Macon. It was such a beautiful day to be out and about. It’s always fun to read the history of places.

We made our way back to our room where we played games on our porch and enjoyed the sunshine.

Saturday we checked out of our room and drove to Harkers Island. There we got on a ferry that would drop us off on an island called Shackleford Banks. It is home to wild horses that are said to be descendents of Spanish settlers. It is also supposed to be a good place to go shelling. We were more interested in finding the horses than finding shells. They just drop you off on the island and say good luck. You are all on your own when it comes to what yo7 do or which way you go. We headed inland to try to spot the horses. There were plenty of signs (poop) that they were around. Eventually, in the distance we spotted one. We put ourselves in a spot to see them better. It was so neat. We continued to explore the island and we ended up seeing 16 horses before we had to head back to catch our ferry to takes us over to Cape Lookout Lighthouse.

Our Ferry showed up and took us over to see the Cape Lookout Lighthouse. After seeing this one, there is only one lighthouse left in NC that I haven’t seen. Sadly, the lighthouse is currently under construction for some safety renovations so we were unable to climb to the top. It was still very pretty to see. After hanging out for a couple of hours, we headed back to catch our ferry ride back to our car.

Mom and Connie stayed one more night with Scott and I. We grabbed dinner, chatted, and played games. Had a great time hanging with them.
