A Little Sightseeing

Today we decided to take advantage of a non rainy mostly sunny day and get some sightseeing done.  We made a big circle.  We started off by heading north to Anacortes.  This was a really cute town that we would like to go back to when we have more time to check it out.  We did have lunch in a little diner downtown.

Next, we stopped at a park to check out the beach view.  It was very windy and the water was super choppy.  The dock was rolling like a bucking bronco.  I didn’t brave walking to the end for fear that I wouldn’t be able to keep dry.

Our next stop was Deception Pass, the bridge over to Whidbey Island.  We stopped before the bridge for some photo ops.

After crossing the bridge there was a parking lot so that you could get out and walk the bridge.  When we got out on the bridge it was so windy that I was afraid it was going to blow my phone out of my hands!  In order to get to the other side of the bridge you have to go under so you don’t attempt crossing the traffic.

Deception Pass State Park was our next stop on the route.  Parts of the park were closed for the winter but there was a very pretty picnic area open.  We were able to walk around and watch the waves crash on the rocks.

We went into another state park.  We didn’t really stop anywhere in it, we just drove through.

This was the last park we visited on Whidbey Island.  It had a cute short little lighthouse and an old battery.  The lighthouse was unfortunately closed so we couldn’t go inside it.  The views were beautiful.  I think we got a little wind burned from the day.

Got a glimpse of a bald eagle when we got to the lighthouse.  I was quick enough with the phone to snap a picture.

We continued our drive to the southern end of Whidbey Island where we caught the ferry to take us back to Everett.  It was the first time that I had ever been on a car ferry.  It was a very pleasant experience.  The ferry staff were very efficient in getting the cars on and off the boat.

Because of the time change, the ferry ride was almost a sunset cruise.  We were able to see a lot of places today and take advantage of the nice weather.
