Orcas Island

We hopped on a ferry first thing this morning to head to Orcas Island.  It is the largest of the San Juan Islands.  We got to see the sunrise while in the ferry.

We made it to the island and thought just maybe the sun might come out.  It didn’t.  Once we saw a sliver of blue sky but it didn’t last.

Our first stop on the island was Mt. Constitution in Moran State Park.  It is the highest point in the San Juan Islands.

When we got to the top of the mountain, we were able to climb to the top of a fire watch tower.  It was about 35 degrees and super windy.  The views were beautiful and I bet they are even better on a clear day.

On the way down the mountain we stopped at a trail head and hiked to see 4 different waterfalls.

Rustic Falls

Cascade Falls

Cavern Falls

Hidden Falls

We then drove to Obstruction Pass State Park.  We did a tiny hike there but there wasn’t much to see.

We found a cool little place in town to have lunch on the water and walked around for a little while.  There wasn’t much going on but I can imagine how busy the place is in the summer.

We saw this sign while riding through town.  I made us stop for a photo op.

We headed back to the ferry terminal.  Since we were a little early we put our car in line and went to BoatHouse Ciders which was right at the ferry terminal.  We tasted a Blackberry cider and a Strawberry Rhubarb cider.  BlackBerry was my favorite and we bought a bottle to take home.

Overall it was a great visit to Orcas Island.
