A Day in Boston

Today we got up bright and early and caught the Downeaster Amtrak train to Boston, Massachusetts. Scott was excited because this was his first Amtrak train ride. I was excited for the train ride because we wouldn’t have to deal with the stress of driving and finding parking in the city especially since it was Super Bowl Sunday! Our trip stated with a delay because they couldn’t get the brakes in the train to work. 😱

When we arrived in Boston, we started what would be about 10 miles of walking and headed to our first destination. The USS Constitution: the oldest commissioned warship afloat. We were taken on a guided tour of the ship. She is beautiful!

After touring the ship and the museum we went for a bite to eat. On the way, we saw something that I thought was quite strange. A Dollar Tree in a church!

After lunch, we followed the Freedom trail through Boston. It took us by several historic sites. We did veer off the trail at some point and missed a few of the sites but were able to see most of what we really wanted to see. The trail of red bricks was the indication that we were on the Freedom Trail.

Bunker Hill

Random pictures from our walk.

The Old North Church

We couldn’t go inside the church but I was able to reach to snap a picture through the window.

The New North Meeting House

Paul Revere Statue and his home. We were able to tour his home.

Massachusetts State House

Boston Common.

The lakes were frozen over and people were skating and walking on them. So I gave it try. Not gonna lie, I was a little nervous.

Where everyone knows your name…

The New England Holocaust Memorial. The panels of glass were full of numbers of the people in camps. There were also chilling quotes from survivors on some of them.

We had a great time in Boston. We walked a ton and got to see a a lot. Also, you would never have to go without a donut while in Boston. There was a Dunkin Donuts on just about every corner. Some buildings had 2. Luckily, I’m not that big of a fan. We left before the big Super Bowl parties started but right as the Celtics game ended. The train was full of Celtic fans heading out of the city. The train station was right at the TD Garden (home of the Celtics).

We had a slight delay on the way home also. They couldn’t get the tracks to switch over, so we had to go a ways backwards and switch tracks at a different part. All in all, it was a great day!
