Scenic Drive in the White Mountain National Forest

Today we went on a nice scenic drive through the White Mountain National Forest in New Hampshire on the Kancamagus Highway. There was so much snow!! At least 2 feet in most places, sometimes more. Most of the parking lots for the trail heads we inaccessible due to snow, but we were able to get to a couple.

Our first stop was Sabbaday Falls. We had to climb up a snow mountain to get to the trail but someone had made a nice compacted trail to the falls.

Next, we went to the Rocky Gorge because part of the entrance and parking lot had been plowed. Again, someone had made a nice trail of compacted snow. If for some reason you stepped off the trail, like if you tried to go to the bath house, you quickly sank into the snow and could (did) result in a fall. I was guilty! Down I went, and the more I tried to get up the deeper in the snow I sank. Once we started on the trail, we passed a group and their advice was to not step off the trail. Haha. Too late!

There’s a bench under there, I promise.

When I stepped off the trail, this time on purpose, the Snow was easily up to my knees. Super hard to get out of.

More pictures from our drive.
