Time for a Fiesta

Cinco de Mayo marks our 1 year anniversary here in Southport. We came here with the intentions of it being another 13 week assignment and it ended up becoming home. In January, a couple of us at work planned out a few parties for the year. Mine was Cinco de Mayo and we planned on May 1st since the 5th was on a Tuesday. Well…this whole COVID-19 thing threatened to postpone/cancel it as it has most other things. The original stay at home order for NC was set to end on April 30th, so May 1st was still a safe date for the party. The week before, the governor extended the order until the 8th. After careful consideration, Scott and I decided to go ahead with the party on the 1st. All of the guests would be people that I worked with on a daily basis and the spouses that they went home to every day so we felt confident that it would be ok. We had a taco feast with margaritas and Jell-O shots. We laughed, danced, played cornhole, and a beer pong, flip cup, tic tac toe combo. In short, we had a great time. I think that it was a nice change of pace for everyone with all of the quarantine/pandemic stuff going on. We are already planning our next gathering. Here are a few pictures of my fiesta decorations and of the party.

Here’s to another great year in our new home, Southport! Happy Cinco de Mayo!
