Winterfest 2022

Southport held its annual Winterfest this week. One of the events was pet photos with Santa so of course we took Mack. He did so good waiting for his turn with lots of other dogs around. They also had a kissing booth set up. He wasn’t crazy about it but he tolerated it.

We also went to check out the candy cane lane. It’s a fundraising event where people could buy a wooden candy cane and decorate it to be judged. There were some really good ones.

The highlight of winterfest is the Light up the Night parade. This year they included the bicycles and golf carts rather than having a separate parade for them. Scott and I went all out decorating our bikes. Scott rode his box bike which he attached a sleigh that he built and painted. He also dressed as the grinch and we put an antler on Mack just like Max (the grinch’s dog). Mack did so good during the parade and during the waiting before the parade. I dressed as a Christmas Tree and Scott helped me rig my bike so that I could have presents all around me. Scott and Mack were a huge hit with the kids. As we were riding in the parade, all I could hear was people yelling “aww the grinch, oh my goodness look at the dog”. After the parade the bikes and golf carts headed to the Garrison lawn for some music and for the judging. I won best decorated bicycle and Scott won the grinch award. What a great end to a great event.

Saturday was the last day of the season for American Fish and it also happened to be the Christmas Flotilla. Scott and I met Carolina for lunch at Provision and then headed to American Fish to claim our seats for the Flotilla. We made sure to bring hats and jackets to bundle up because it was a cold night on the water. There was a good band for us to listen to while we waited for the boats to come by. Thank goodness we got there early because the crowds came pouring in and it was standing room only. Until next season American Fish…

Sunday we had one last lunch at Provision since it was their last day of the season. It’s going to be a lot quieter in the yacht basin for a while.
