Fun on the water, Family Time, and Dogsitting

Scott and I took the early ferry over to Ft Fisher to do some kayaking around Zeke’s Island. It started off a little cloudy and windy but after a brief rain shower, the wind died down and the sun came out. We were also able to watch a large ship pass by while we were out there. It was neat to be able to see the water withdraw and come rushing back as the ship passed by. We did trade positions on the kayak and decided it was better with me in the back. After we got home from paddling, we went to Fishy Fishy for dinner. The clouds from the incoming storm were pretty cool.

On Sunday, my friends Chelsea and Jay invited me to join them for an adventure on their fishing boat. It was such a beautiful day. We cruised around a little while Chelsea was practicing maneuvering the boat and getting comfortable with it. We ended up on the west end of Oak Island call The Point. We pulled into the shallow water and anchored while we enjoyed our lunches and then a swim.

My friend Liz had to go to Louisiana for her son to play in the World Series Baseball Tournament so we agreed to dog sit for her. Up until this point, Bella was not my biggest fan so I would be lying if I didn’t say I was a little nervous about watching her. Once she was in the house she slowly started warming up to me (as long as I didn’t make any sudden movements). By the time she left we had become best friends. She did great for it being her first time at our house.

Mom, dad, Mikey, Danielle, and Tinley came down for a weekend visit. We had dinner Friday night at San Felipe. Saturday we got up early to catch the ferry to go kayaking to shark tooth island. Scott was going to join us, but due to some technical difficulties with the trailer, we changed plans and he stayed home. The ferry ride was a first for Tinely and Danielle. Once we got to the park we loaded up in the kayaks and paddled over to Shark Tooth Island. The tide was not quite low enough for the beach to be exposed but we just played in the water until it was shallow enough to beach the boats. Despite several brief rain showers, it was an enjoyable and successful shark tooth finding trip. We made our way back home and then changed modes and headed to the beach for a few hours. We grabbed dinner on the way home from one of our favorite food trucks. We ended the evening with ice cream from Spikes. Everyone was up and out pretty early on Sunday.
