Cape Fear Kite Festival

This weekend was a beautiful weekend. We started it off by heading to Wilmington to take a tour of the National Weather Service for their first open house in 30 years. It was much smaller than I expected but still really interesting. When we got back to Southport, we rode down to the waterfront to visit the annual Wooden Boat Show. We got there near the end but it was such a nice day it didn’t matter.

Sunday we rode our bikes onto the ferry to head over to Fort Fisher to check out the kite festival. It was once again a beautiful day, so what could be bad about a bike ride and a walk on the beach. It was pretty neat to see all the different kites. They even had an area for trick kites. After we walked on the beach and enjoyed the kites, we enjoyed a picnic lunch that we packed before we got back on the ferry to Southport.

It was an absolutely beautiful weekend. Hopefully we will have some more of these beautiful weekends before the cold hits.
